New treatment for Plainfield's wells

Connecticut Water says its $3.5 million Gallup treatment facility went online at the end of July 2026. It can deliver more than 850,000 gallons a day, treats water from both of the system's wells at one site, and adds pH adjustment and corrosion control to the disinfection already in place. The company's 2025 report says the system's water comes from groundwater wells.

Corrosion control helps protect pipes and fixtures. If your water heater was already rusting inside, though, it won't reverse that.

Old homes

Nearly a third built before 1940

About 29% of Plainfield homes were built before 1940 and 40% before 1960. In older houses, the water heater often shares a cramped basement with an oil boiler, and the venting, valves and connectors around it deserve a look at every replacement.

Fuel

Oil, wood and electric

About 61% of Plainfield homes heat with oil, 15% with electricity and 7% with wood, the highest wood share of any town we cover in Connecticut. Only about 9% use gas. Tell the plumber whether your hot water comes from a stand-alone heater or the boiler.
