Source: Wilkinsburg-Penn Joint Water AuthorityAllegheny River water and a 2026 notice
The Wilkinsburg-Penn Joint Water Authority draws Allegheny River water at its Nadine intake in Penn Hills. A notice in its 2025 report says testing received May 1, 2026 showed total trihalomethanes averaging 81.62 ppb at the Pitcairn Water Storage Tank site, over the 80 ppb limit, and that the violation pertains to customers served by the Pitcairn tank and in the Trafford area. The notice says this is not an emergency and you do not need to boil water or use bottled water. Questions go to its Manager of Purification at (412) 243-6212.
The report also says the authority installed a booster station in Pitcairn to address water quality and pressure in an area served through an interconnect with the Monroeville Municipal Authority, and is filing the permits for it with the state. It notes that minerals in its water can build up in water heaters.
