Water

Echo Lake, the Charles and town wells

The Milford Water Department draws on five sources. Its Dilla Street plant treats water from the Charles River, Echo Lake Reservoir (the largest source), the Dilla Street wells and the Clark's Island wells, and a second plant off Depot Street treats water from seven gravel-packed wells along Godfrey Brook. The wells are 22 to 52 feet deep. In 2025, hardness measured 43.7 ppm, inside the USGS soft range of 0 to 60 mg/L, and sodium 61 ppm.

PFAS

Godfrey Brook plant offline for PFAS

Samples at the Godfrey Brook plant in January and February 2025 averaged 23 parts per trillion of PFAS6, over the state limit of 20, and the plant was taken offline on February 24, 2025. The department says the Dilla Street plant meets the town's demand and stays below the limit, and that permanent PFAS treatment at Godfrey Brook is expected by late 2027. Questions go to the department at (508) 473-5110.
